July Cure Champion

Jeff D’Angelo

Our son Jeff was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1D) on November 17, 2008 at the age of 9.  It was absolutely devastating to have his life change so dramatically overnight, as all parents of kids with T1D know. We received our Bag of Hope very soon after we arrived home, and what a relief to have so much support, information, and knowledge that we are not alone, wrapped up in one blue bag!

As the years living with T1D pass, JDRF has been our constant source of hope and support. We established Team Jeff and walk with a group of friends from sport teams and school at the JDRF Boston Walk each year.

Jeff has really found his voice in the “Promise to Remember Me” Campaign meetings, speaking to Senators and his State Representatives about the difficulty of managing diabetes while playing sports, and how frustrating it is to know that his disease often affects his performance.

Jeff has recently been chosen to represent Massachusetts and the JDRF New England Chapter at Children’s Congress in Washington D.C. He will be joining 163 other delegates and their families to remind Congress to renew the Special Diabetes Program and the funding that is crucial to many clinical trials and research for a cure.  Jeff will meet personally with our senators and representatives to talk about what life is like with T1D, and to ask them to continue to vote for funding. Jeff is so excited and honored to represent people with diabetes at this special event. In addition to this, he has been honored to have the opportunity to personally thank Marshalls for their continued support of JDRF and to present Marshalls with their Corporate Sponsorship award at Children’s Congress. Marshalls does an amazing Sneaker Campaign right here in our home town of Plymouth and throughout the country!

Jeff enjoys playing lacrosse and hockey at his high school, and joins all of us in hope for a day when Type One becomes Type NONE!
